How to throw a baby shower

Baby showers are delightful occasions. After all, the point is to celebrate the arrival of a new baby and make sure the expectant parents in your life have all the support and things they need to welcome their new baby with confidence. But a baby shower also comes with the stress of planning and hosting a large party. It’s a party after all and you want your guests to have a good time.

A genius way to add another fun baby shower game to your party that your guests will love and has the added benefit of making sure you have enough diapers – even if you don’t One of the most important things you need when baby comes home is to host a diaper raffle. Here’s everything you need to know to make it happen.

What is a diaper raffle?

The name Diaper Lottery is a bit misleading. You don’t raffle off diapers to the winner. Instead, guests brought diapers to the baby shower in exchange for raffle tickets. Then at the end of the shower, you choose one or more people to win a prize.

Why Have a Diaper Raffle at a Baby Shower?

There are many reasons to include a diaper raffle as part of a baby shower (or the baby shower you’re hosting, if you’re in charge of a loved one’s baby shower).

First, it brings an extra layer of excitement to guests in the shower. Secondly, it guarantees that you will receive a lot of diapers. Babies use thousands of diapers in their first year, and newborns use up to 300 diapers per month. But even if you and your guests know how many diapers you’ll need, they’re not the most glamorous gift to bring to a baby shower.

Most people prefer to bring baby shower gifts, such as cute clothes or cuddly toys, rather than a box of diapers. If you host a diaper raffle, it creates an incentive for guests to pick up a pack of diapers and onesies.

Remember to let your guests know about the diaper raffle in advance

Be sure to let your guests know about the diaper raffle ahead of time. Many of the companies you can order baby shower invitations from will also create accompanying cards that you can include that detail how the diaper raffle works. Include any other details about the draw, including:

  • how many winners will there be
  • How to win more entries – You can make a small pack of diapers, worth one entry, a medium pack of diapers, worth two bucks, and so on
  • What size diapers to bring – Guests are encouraged to bring a variety of diaper sizes
  • What type of diapers to bring – Let your guests know if you plan on using a specific type of diaper (such as cloth diapers) or a specific brand of diapers
  • If the diaper raffle replaces other gifts or is in addition to

How to Host a Diaper Raffle

When baby shower day comes, you’ll want to set up an area, table, or other station for the diaper raffle. Here’s everything you need to remember when setting up a diaper raffle.

Design your diaper raffle station

A diaper raffle station has to include a few things. First, you’ll need raffle tickets, which can be diaper raffle-specific tickets, general tickets, or even slips of paper with people writing their names. You will need a box or bowl in which to store the tickets when guests arrive and the diapers are delivered. Unless you want them to be a surprise, you need an area to display the prizes people will win. Finally, you’ll need a space to collect all of your diapers.

How to collect and organize diaper donations

As long as you have enough space to accommodate all the diapers guests bring in, you can choose whether or not someone will operate the diaper station. If you do this, that person can organize the diapers and hand out or fill out tickets as everyone arrives and delivers donations. If you prefer to use an honor system, you could use a sign to mark where guests should store their diapers and another sign to remind people to be entered into a raffle based on the number of diapers they bring.

Announcing Diaper Raffle Winner or Winners

The last step is self-explanatory; we recommend that new parents-to-be choose one or more winners and announce them at the end of the baby shower or after all planned festivities and activities are completed.

What do they deserve to win? When choosing prizes, consider your guests and their likes and dislikes. Also, if your shower is co-ed, be sure to have gifts that will appeal to anyone. Here are five gift ideas:

  • Gift cards, such as from Amazon, Target, or a local coffee shop
  • Spa Day Gift Card
  • Self-care products or gift sets, such as lotions, hand sanitizers and deodorant sprays
  • Food themed gift basket or wine bottle
  • Bath set including candles, bath bombs and bubble bath
  • Customizable bathrobe, apron or water bottle
