Legoland California lets kids unleash their imaginations

Of all the toys we have in our house (and we have a huge collection), Lego is the best. My kids have been building with Legos ever since my husband’s Duplo set was passed down from my in-laws. They are already learning age-appropriate building sets and creating their own masterpieces at home.

We also often build together as a family. From LEGO flower sets to mini witches and trains, there’s always a LEGO project that starts with what seems like a million scattered pieces (if you know one, you know it).

Of course, we’re big fans of LEGOLAND New York, so when the opportunity came up earlier this month to cover the LEGO DREAMZzz: Wild Adventures event and experience LEGOLAND California, I jumped at it.

LEGO DREAMZzz Experience

Our first stop was the LEGO DREAMZzz: Wild Adventures at the Los Angeles Zoo. The month-long experience celebrates the launch of the new LEGO DREAMZzz sets, which hit stores in August.

During a visit to the zoo, we met with LEGO model-maker Chris Steininger, who talked about the inspiration behind the new sets.

“It’s all about exploring your creativity in the world of DREAMZzz. You can do anything, your dreams can inspire and create limitless things,” he said.

My kids started building an oversized LEGO DREAMZzz creature called Izzy’s Narwhal. The pair gathered at different building stations that highlighted instructions to help build the pieces that would eventually become part of the oversized LEGO structure. It stimulates my children’s attention and unleashes their creativity.

“I grew up playing with LEGO bricks. I am an example of someone who is a huge LEGO fan and has become a master LEGO model builder through his own efforts. We hope to inspire the next generation of master model builders.

While we visited the event in California, there will be more unique events in Florida, New York, and this August at LEGOLAND Discovery Center to inspire kids to use their wild imaginations and work together to create original fantasy creatures to earn An unforgettable experience.

Our day at Legoland California

The next day we headed out to Legoland California in Carlsbad, North San Diego County. This STEAM-based theme park has more than 60 rides for children ages 2 to 12.

These include Dinosaur Valley, the park’s newest addition. My youngest daughter was excited to ride the DUPLO Dinosaur Trail, which included discovering all the dinosaurs in sight!

Then we got to ride the Dragon Rider (my kids asked for two rides!). The ride is set in a prehistoric jungle, surrounded by their favorite LEGO dinosaurs. The descent was fun and kid-friendly (I’m not a fan of roller coasters and this felt like a gentle ride, which was perfect for me too!).

Next, we visited The LEGO Movie World, where the kids were excited to try out Emmett’s flying adventure, which featured a virtual ride on his “three-tiered flying couch.” LEGO Ferrari Build & Race is also great for two kids because they have two experiences: one for toddlers and one for older kids.

Snack and food stations are easily accessible to keep the kids well fed. There are also creative destinations for building masterpieces throughout the park. Our kids loved building and playing with Legos in these areas, which gave us a nice break while waiting in line for the rides. Our favorite was the Coast Guard Boat Building Experience, where kids can build their own boats and then race them.

The park is huge and has lots to see and do. We ended the day with a banana themed dance party. Yes, really. It’s the perfect way to end a fun-filled LEGO adventure.
