Paula Abdul cancels tour, undergoes ‘minor surgery’ to repair recent injury

Paula Abdul has been forced to cancel her upcoming Canadian tour.

Abdul, 62, posted an announcement on her Instagram on Wednesday, September 4, saying she needed to undergo a “minor surgery” to treat some “recent” injuries and that the recovery time would allow her to She is unable to start her tour later this month.

“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I need to share with you an update on my recent injury. In order to move forward, I have received targeted injections that will give me temporary relief, but the demands of the entire trip are another time thing,” her post began.

“After many consultations with my doctor and exploring all available options, I was informed that one of my injuries would require a minor surgery followed by 6-8 weeks of recovery time, therefore this would prevent me from continuing with the Straight Up ! Canada tour plus dates in Alaska and North Dakota.

Abdul went on to express her “deepest apologies” to fans in Canada and the United States, saying the news “truly breaks my heart.”

“I always look forward to the energy, love and connection we always share when we are together,” she continued. “I promise I’ll be back soon, stronger and better, dancing your heart out and performing for all of you to give you the show you deserve.”

The singer and dancer added before ending her post: “You can get a refund at the time of purchase, thank you for your love, patience and understanding during this time. With all my love and gratitude, XoP♥️💋🇨🇦 🇺🇸.

Representatives for Abdul did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information.

Abdul doesn’t mince words! The Canadian tour was originally scheduled to begin on September 25 in Victoria, British Columbia, and run until October 26.

The tour also includes a show in Fargo, North Dakota on October 12, while Abdul is also scheduled to perform in Anchorage, Alaska, four days before the tour begins.

Abdul’s news comes after she joined New Kids on the Block for their 2024 Magical Summer Tour, which concluded on August 25.

In a tribute to their record-breaking stadium tour in 1990, the band is also joining DJ Jazzy Jeff for a 40-date tour that kicks off on June 14th.

Following the tour, Abdul, who performed with the New Kids on their 2017 New Kids Overall Tour, took to Instagram on August 27 to express his “biggest thank you” to bandmates Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight.

“I am so grateful to be able to share the stage with you every night. The charisma and connection you have with your audience is beautiful,” Abdul wrote. Thank you, goons, for embracing me and my dancers with your energy and enthusiasm night after night! I love you all so much! 💋Magical Summer Forever💜✨.
