Production begins on sixth and final season of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

Production on the highly anticipated sixth and final season The Handmaid’s Tale It finally started.

Hulu announced the news on Friday, September 6, along with a photo of Elisabeth Moss grinning from ear to ear while clutching a divider.

“Guess who’s back? Production has officially begun on the final season. #TheHandmaidsTale will return in Spring 2025,” reads a post shared on Instagram.

Two years ago, the show, adapted from Margaret Atwood’s best-selling 1985 novel of the same name, was renewed for a sixth season ahead of its fifth season premiere.

“We’re honored to be able to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novels and chillingly relatable world, and we’re excited to bring viewers the sixth and final season. “The Handmaid’s Tale”,” said creator and executive producer Bruce Miller at the time.

“We’re grateful to Hulu and MGM for allowing us to tell this story, which unfortunately remains as relevant as ever throughout its run, and are in awe of the unwavering support of our incredible fans, without whom, We will never achieve this.

While details about Season 6’s plot have yet to be released, Miller told DigitalSpy in a November 2022 interview: “We’re going to do it on our own terms.”

“It’s something that we can’t get just by the way our business is set up. And, more importantly, it’s something that not everyone is going to offer to their audience,” he said. “But I had two things that stood out to me. I had a book. The book and the author were both very dynamic and very helpful to me.”

In addition to Moss, the cast for Season 6 also includes Yvonne Strahovski (Serena Joy Watford), Bradley Whitford (Lawrence Conductor) Officer), Max Minghella (Nick), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), O.T. Fagbenle (Luke), Samira Wiley (Moira), Madeleine Boo Rule (Jenny), Amanda Brueghel (Rita), Sam Jaeger (Mark Tuello) and Ever Carradine (Naomi Putnam). Josh Charles was announced as a new cast member in July 2024.
