Michael Strahan reveals hilarious grandpa name after daughter welcomes first child

Michael Strahan is about to accept his new title as a grandpa.

as a guest The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday, September 23, good morning america The 52-year-old anchor excitedly shared that his eldest daughter Tanita gave birth “at 2:30 in the morning” on Sunday, September 22. Struggling with the thoughts of his son, Onyx.

“I went over there yesterday after I finished work at Forks, and I held him,” he explained, pretending to hold Onyx in his arms. “I thought, ‘I’m going to spoil you rotten and give you back to your parents.'”

He later admitted: “It’s the most amazing feeling, but I feel like I’m not old enough yet.”

One question “everyone” is asking, Strahan said, is what Onyx will call him. “I don’t know!” he exclaimed. “I almost wanted to do a survey.”

Fallon then chimed in: “Well, except for grandpa, right? Like dad?”

“Yeah,” Strahan said, “Dad, Gappa, like I don’t know.”

Fallon and the crowd laughed at the new grandpa’s name idea. “This is hilarious, man,” Fallon said. “But it’s awesome.”

“I’m so happy for my daughter Tanita and her boyfriend,” he said, adding sweetly that Onyx is “a great addition to the family.”

The 32-year-old Los Angeles-based illustrator is the eldest of four children. He shares Tanita with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. She was born in Germany but lived in Houston, Texas until her parents divorced, after which she moved back to Germany with her mother.
