Where can I find the most tears? Weddings, funerals and daycare transfers. It can be hard to set your child free, but one mom has found a sweet way to remind her that she’s with her wherever she goes.
TikTok user @kate.nh shared a video showing off her and her daughter’s new drop-off tradition.
“A few months ago, my daughter started hating childcare,” Kate explains in the video. “We went through weeks of tears and being ripped away from me and given to her educators. It breaks my heart.
This breaks my heart too! Although it is difficult for a child to leave his or her parents, it is also difficult to watch a child cry.
Thankfully, Kate found a solution that seemed to work for both her and her daughter.
“I decided to try drawing a heart on her hand so we could stay connected throughout the day,” she shared. “We’ve drawn hearts, stars, smiley faces and now finally settled on her ball of choice.”
In the video, Kate draws a small circle on her daughter’s hand with a pen, and then her daughter also draws a circle on her hand.
“It’s a silly little gesture but sometimes it makes a world of difference,” Kate wrote.
Kate shared that while there are still days that are harder than others, their traditions help remind her daughter that she loves her and will always be with her.
Commenters loved the sweet gesture. Many people shared how their own parents did similar things and what it still means to them now.
“My mom used to spray her perfume on my sleeve so when I was anxious I could smell her next to me 😩 Mom’s perfume is the best,” one user said.
“My mom would draw a smiley face on my hand every day in kindergarten! Now I have a tattoo of her handwriting since she’s no longer here. I promise you sweet girl won’t forget that! 💗💗,” another shared.
Some mothers shared their experiences helping their children and hoped that picking up and dropping off their children would become easier.
“I often kiss the inside of my son’s hand and tell him to ‘put the kiss in his pocket’ so he can get it when he needs it. He is now 6 and loves school but still asks for kisses in the morning His hands, which he kisses for me now, are my favorite part of the morning,” one mom said.
While going to day care can feel like a big step in your baby’s development, traditions like this can turn into childhood memories that last a lifetime.
