As Christmas approaches (it will come sooner than you think! It always does!), many of us have probably started to prepare, at least mentally, for the onslaught of festivities. Menu planning, gift shopping, decorating, and texting with each branch of the family to find out who will see whom when. So imagine how difficult it must be for Santa Claus, the big man who brings joy and light to all the homes celebrating the holidays around the world. This seems like a heavy burden.
But TikTok founder Penny Middleton (@pennymiddleton) has some thoughts on the matter, specifically how Santa Claus completes his mission with a lot of help from Mrs. Claus.
“I’m hesitant to talk about this on social media,” she began. “Because sometimes I feel like there are things that shouldn’t be shared. But I just feel like we’ve all been buying into this collective delusion… and I don’t think we should do it anymore.
After saying that, she took out a small stuffed toy of Santa Claus and looked at the camera expressionlessly.
“You can’t tell me that this man – this man – organized Christmas, traveled around the world, made a list and checked it twice, without anyone’s help. this woman”.
That’s when she revealed the Mrs. Claus doll.
“Here!” she said, tapping Mrs. Claus, then lifting Santa Claus up again. “This guy? No, no, no. this It’s that woman. The lady is making sure the list is complete, and the little sister checks it twice.
She then went on to imagine what a conversation between jolly old Saint Nick and his long-suffering spouse would be like, well, watch out for yourself. I’m not saying this is accurate for many male/female relationships, but I am saying that my own husband saw this and laughed in a way that was simultaneously ticklish and a little mortifying.
“This year,” Middleton concluded, “I’m leaving cookies for Mrs. Claus. From now on: Celebrate Mrs. Claus. Because without this woman’s help, there’s no way this man could have carried Travel the world with one list. and: she…”
Middleton then revealed the show’s third character: a female elf.
“These are the women!”
Commenters can definitely buy into this theory, and their responses are pretty interesting.
“On December 23rd, Santa is out shoveling the snow and painting the reindeer barn with zero sense of urgency for this list,” one mused.
“He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice, he left it at home and he’s texting his wife,” another joked (yes, we used “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” The tune sings it).
“At the end of the conversation, he definitely asked what was for dinner,” a third person said, which made me laugh and then get inexplicably angry.
Several commenters had suggestions for what to leave for Mrs. Claus. Spiked eggnog, latte and scone, chocolate. But my personal favorite is: “A bottle of wine and a charcuterie board.”
Because I know how difficult it is to spend Christmas just for my family – I can’t imagine it for the whole world – there’s nothing more exciting than sitting by the fire with a bottle of wine and assorted cheeses after the festivities are over …
At your service, Mrs. Claus! We know what happened there.
