Taylor Swift is back in full swing for the final Canadian leg of her Eras Tour, which kicked off in Toronto last night. Did everyone see the mashup of “False God” and “It’s Damn Season”? Yes? Okay, great.
If you’re like me, you must have committed a felony to participate. Of course, there were quite a few moms who were a little frustrated because they couldn’t get tickets for their little Swifties.
Here’s why Canadian talk show host Melissa Grelo societyreached out to moms in a now-deleted video on Instagram. She wanted to remind moms who couldn’t get their coveted tickets that they were “doing great.”
“As exciting as all the Taylor Swift excitement is in the city of Toronto right now, I know it’s also going to be an extremely difficult week for a lot of people, especially the Swift moms out there,” Guerrero said. It’s just a matter of supply and demand, there’s too much demand and not enough supply when it comes to tickets.
“Moms, I know you are doing everything you can to bring Taylor Swift’s happiness to your children.”
She also expressed sympathy for parents who can’t afford tickets, noting, “If there is a ticket, it’s literally the price of a car.”
While tickets for the Canadian show initially went on sale in 2023, remaining tickets have been difficult to obtain through resale, with some reportedly selling for as much as $33,000.
Despite the steep price tag, it might be hard for little Swift and their parents not to be disappointed, as Swift will play six shows in Toronto over the next two weekends.
“I just want to acknowledge that this is not going to be an easy moment for everyone, as exciting as it is for the city… I want to say, I feel for you. I see you. Everywhere. It’s the heartbroken girl,” Guerrero said. “But moms, you’re enough. You’re doing a great job. Whether you get tickets or not, this is just a blip in history. They’re going to get over it.”
“I see you, I feel you, if you just want to shut down everything about Taylor Swift for the next two weeks, I get it. … Moms, you’re doing a great job,” Guerrero concluded.
Many commenters found comfort in Guerrero’s message.
“I need this and I feel like a complete failure as a mom. My daughter is so heartbroken that she won’t go,” one user said.
“Crying listening to your post. It’s been a stressful time trying to keep my son happy. These prices are insane,” another added.
Others, however, were critical of Guerrero, calling the issue a “first world problem.” Some also accused her of hypocrisy because she later brought her daughter to Thursday night’s show.
One user commented: “You’re lucky you can afford the tickets, now your biggest worry is groceries.”
Guerrero appeared to delete the post and shared a story in response, writing: “I surrender. Nuance and empathy are lost on social media.
Personally, I understand the criticism, but I appreciate Guerrero’s message. Meeting Taylor Swift is a dream for many kids (and me, an adult but also a kid). If your puppy-eyed kid tells you they’re sad they’re not on the show, you might need a little reminder that you’re still doing a great job, and that the vast majority of parenting has nothing to do with buying into your child.
It looks like Guerrero and her daughter had a lot of fun too, which is so great for them! In Taylor’s own words, I think we all need to calm down, just a little.
