Have you ever received a piece of advice that fundamentally changed the way you approach some aspect of your life? I hope so. Because when these little life hacks come along, they can make things better in ways we didn’t know existed. In a recent throwback video, TikTok founder Casey (@rulerlesscasey) shares the wisdom that changed the way she sees the world.
She remembers one time when she walked into the waiting area of the music school where she worked and saw two little brothers playing with toys. While her sons were minding their own business, their mom was working on her laptop and Kathy complimented them on how well they were playing.
“She said ‘Yeah, our class is over and we’re going to the park,'” Kathy said. “But, you know, don’t trade fun for fun.”
The idea was absolutely inspiring to Kathy, who considered it the wisest advice she had ever received and had many opportunities to put it into practice over the next few years. If your baby is happy playing with the box and wrapper, she says, there’s no need to force them to play with the toys inside.
Now, I’ve also heard a version of this advice, usually “don’t try to make a happy baby/child happier”. As a parent, this helps me if I want to know “should I doing More?
But then Casey provides some examples of failures mine mind.
“If you do have a passion for a particular hobby for a while, you don’t have to feel bad about the hobby you neglected—just keep following your interest,” she says.
oh. Look, as a mom thinking about my kids, I’m happy to take this advice, but I never thought about applying it to myself, a human adult woman in the year of the Lord 2024 (Beyoncé). I I can take this approach I?

“If you always want to order the same thing when you go to a restaurant, keep ordering what you like. If you plan a series of different games for a party but people have fun with the first one, go with it. Let them go.
“Usually, we don’t need to control things so tightly,” she concluded. “We don’t need as much diversity as we think. If we catch a wave, we can ride it all the way to shore, and then we can go find another wave.
So next time you think you should do more or something elseask yourself if it’s necessary, or if you’re trading fun for fun. Because there’s always another wave coming, and sometimes it’s nice to float.
