When it comes to sequels, no one does it better than Disney. have a look Toy Story 2 (through the upcoming toy story 5). or looking for dory. or monsters university? So it makes sense that expectations for it were through the roof. Moana 2, The film was announced in February and follows closely on the heels of a live-action Moana being also in development. While a trailer in May stoked fans’ excitement for the animated sequel, we haven’t had much else to go on until now.
Disney released its first official full trailer during its annual D23 fan expo moana 2. Appropriately, Dwayne Johnson (aka the voice of the Maui Demigod) takes the stage to introduce the new trailer, which promises “Moana and Maui’s most exciting adventure yet.”
Aside from the trailer, this is the first time we’ve seen a clip from the film outside of the “very short” preview released in February, courtesy of the official Walt Disney Animation Studios TikTok account. Between the Maui hoopla and the reveal of the actual release date (yes, really!), Sneak Attack Scrolls generated a lot of buzz.

Also returning are Alan Tudyk (Hei Hei), Rachel House (Grandma Tara), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father, Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger ( Moana’s mother, Sina). New cast members include Khaleesi Lambert Tsuda as Moana’s sister.
Don’t worry: Moana’s adorable piggy sidekick Pua is back, too.
Unfortunately, the film’s original composer Lin-Manuel Miranda is not expected to compose the music for the sequel. Moana 2 Music team members include Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina. While the soundtrack is certainly in capable hands (and voices), we’re hoping for another announcement regarding Miranda’s return.
