(Did I find an old scan of the Pleasant Company catalog and pull out the Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator to figure this out? I did. Such is my allegiance to the American Girl dolls.) Now, you can Be your favorite childhood doll—unless your favorite is Felicity, Josephina, or Addie, and they’re not available—prices range from $38 to $58. But does this level of nostalgia really come at a cost?

As of press time, less than 24 hours after the announcement, many sizes have been sold out. Molly’s costume is completely sold out on Costumes.com.
