As I write this I am watching the Olympics and I am in awe of all these incredible athletes. It’s truly amazing to see the greatest athletes in the world competing against each other in their respective sports. You know what else is surprising? Get to know some of these competitors mothers. These women have grown, given birth, and continued to be kept alive. They are Olympians. I have fond memories of watching the Olympics growing up, and one athlete I admired over the years was Allison Felix. She did some amazing things as a track star, but her work off the track was just as inspiring.
Who is Alison Felix?
Allison Felix is the most decorated track and field athlete in history. that’s right! With a record-breaking 20 World Championship medals and 11 Olympic medals (7 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze), she ranks among the sport’s greats. Throughout her career, Allison has shown resilience and determination, overcoming setbacks and injuries to achieve great things on the track. Her dedication to her sport and pursuit of excellence have made her a role model for aspiring athletes around the world. Allison retired from her athletic career in 2022 after winning her final world championship gold medal in Eugene, Oregon, ending her career as the most decorated athlete in track and field history.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Felix was recognized for her advocacy work and leadership in promoting gender equality and diversity in sports. She has been an outspoken advocate for athletes’ reproductive rights, sparking important conversations about supporting female athletes during pregnancy and postpartum. She has also been an advocate for Black maternal health to address racial disparities in maternal mortality in the United States. One of the powerful figures.
Alison is also a wife and mother to her two children. In November 2018, Alison gave birth to daughter Camryn at 32 weeks following an emergency caesarean section due to severe pre-eclampsia. In April 2024, she welcomed her son Kenneth (Trey) through non-medicated VBAC. Her journey into motherhood has added a new dimension to her career, and her ability to excel both on and off the field inspires others.
