In a recent episode of their podcast, Dad statusprevious Bachelor Stars Colton Underwood and husband Jordan C. Brown discuss some of the more frustrating parts of being a gay couple with children, including questions about the child’s mother.
Underwood admitted, “He doesn’t have a mother.”
In a TikTok clip shared to Underwood, Brown asked Underwood if he wanted to delve deeper into the subject.
“Yes. He’s our son, he doesn’t have a mother. I think that’s important — if I could scream from the rooftops, I would,” Underwood said as Brown held their son, Bishop.
“Our child has two dads, but he has no mom.”
Brown responded: “Sometimes it’s really disrespectful. Again, other times it’s not. Some people don’t know. Someone commented, ‘This kid was taken away from his mother.
“That’s not true,” Underwood interjected.
In fact, their son Bishop was made from one woman’s egg and carried by an entirely different woman.
Bishop replied: “By the way, neither of them felt in their hearts that he was their child.”
Underwood continued, “The terminology we use is he had an egg donor. He didn’t have a biological mother. He didn’t have a mom… He had an egg donor and a surrogate who brought him into the world.
Reviews on the video were mixed, with some positive for the couple, including one tree hill Alumna Sophia Busch wrote: “The luckiest boy with two of the most loving dads! We love you, sweet Bishop! 💙”
“Two loving parents, the end. 🥰” said another.
“Agency here! No one understands because there really isn’t enough education or talking about it in my opinion,” wrote another.
“I’m an egg donor and I’ve been thinking about cases like this! I’m glad someone like me can help you build your family. 🥰” one user chimed in.
Unfortunately, there are others who don’t share the same sentiment of acceptance.
“Well, that’s impossible,” one user wrote.
“All children have a mother 🥰 Hope this helps,” one condescending person wrote.
“Yes, he does have a mother,” answered the other.
While people always have their opinions, this situation feels simple to me. Bishop was conceived using sperm from one of his fathers and an egg donor. Bishop was then picked up by a deputy. Underwood and Brown raised him, nurtured him and made sure he lived a happy life. They are his dads.
