A young girl who survived a car crash that killed her father and siblings is filled with sadness and gratitude as she continues to recover after the tragic event.
Aubrey Bogacki was involved in a fatal car crash on Saturday, July 20, that killed 44-year-old Nathan Bogacki and his two children, 17-year-old Emma and 13-year-old Grant died.
Aubrey, the lone survivor of the accident, spent less than three weeks in the hospital and returned home on Thursday, August 8, NBC affiliate WPXI reported.
She was treated for multiple injuries, including a broken arm, a collapsed lung and multiple injuries to her neck, NBC affiliate WFMJ reported.
Speaking publicly for the first time, 11-year-old Aubrey told the station she felt a range of emotions.
“I’m sad and happy at the same time,” Aubrey said, explaining that she was sad “because of what I was going through,” but that she was grateful for all the “people who supported me.”
Her community came together to support her family following the devastating accident, raising more than $175,000 as of Monday, August 12.
In addition, a local non-profit organization called “Jamie’s Dream Team” has stepped up to help Aubrey’s “dream” of seeing Taylor Swift in concert become a reality.
“Aubrey is strong and deserves anything she wants or anyone that can give her,” said Jamie, founder of Jamie’s Dream Team, a nonprofit that helps people in need achieve their dreams. Ward said in an interview with CBS affiliate KDKA.
In addition to getting tickets to see Swift in Indianapolis this November, Aubrey and her mother will also be traveling to Disney World.
“I just wish Taylor would have met with this girl while she was in Indianapolis or given her a hat, something,” Ward told WPXI. “Let her know she is loved by the one she loves.”
The fatal car accident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. local time on July 20.
Everyone in the car, except Aubrey, died at the scene.
Initially, Aubrey’s prognosis was not good, according to WPXI . But Aubrey’s mother, Nicole Bogacki, told WFMJ her daughter’s recovery has been “incredible.”
