Great-grandmother reminds young mothers to live in the present

It’s easy to get caught up in the daily chaos of home life. Let’s face it, it’s hard to stop and smell the roses when you have to plan for school pick-up, gym drop-off, tonight’s dinner, tomorrow’s lunch, and everything in between. Sometimes, we could all use a little reminder to live in the moment.

That’s why Torchy Swinson posted this video on TikTok to reach out to young moms and remind them to take a deep breath and appreciate this time in their lives.

“I just want to tell you something,” she said. “It’s six o’clock. You’re in the kitchen, making Hamburger Helper. Your husband has just come home from work and you hear him in the living room with the kids. They’re playing, laughing, giggling. It makes you The heart feels good.

“You don’t know it yet, but this could be one of the best days of your life,” she continued.

As a mother, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of six (!), Torch certainly knows what she’s talking about.

Her short story touched the hearts of many and received over 35,000 likes. Many parents commented that they felt seen.

“Instead of me being the burger helper, my husband walks in the door and our three kids are screaming,” one user said.

“My oldest daughter’s favorite food has always been Burger Helper. It’s her comfort meal. She’s now 22 and on her own. It makes me want to cry because it’s true.

Others praised Tocci’s intelligence.

“You’re right, ordinary days are indeed the best. I prefer them to big events.

“My mom tells me this all the time. I embrace the madness and chaos ❤️ Great wisdom,” said another.

Torchy has gained a following on TikTok for posting kind advice to parents. One of her most popular videos has 4.8 million views.

In this TikTok, Torchy shares similar advice to parents: Appreciate where you are because if you blink, you’ll miss it.

“I wasted a lot of time thinking, ‘I’ll be happy when they don’t have diapers,’ ‘I’ll be happy when they start going to school,’ ‘I’ll be happy when they go to school,'” out of school,” Tocci said.

“If I can tell you one thing, don’t postpone happiness,” she continued. “Find your joy in what’s going on today, because that’s where it is.”
