For years, my husband would put on his symbolic Santa hat in the days leading up to Christmas and frantically fill his sleigh with all my favorite goodies. He usually stays close to home – collecting all the goodies from our local town square. My gifts are usually bath products, comfort things, and a gift card or two. Now, to be clear, I am very grateful for his efforts. As a busy person who doesn’t usually enjoy shopping, he tried his best to make me feel special and grateful through my surprise under the tree. But this year, I came up with a new plan: I’ll buy my own gifts. It’s a win for everyone.
Although the element of surprise will be eliminated, everyone will benefit from this decision. It saves my husband from having to fit a chaotic shopping trip into his already busy schedule and takes away the stress of carefully selecting the perfect gift. For me, it widens my gift radius—opening up my possibilities to the entire Internet, who refuses to shop online. Plus, it comes with financial responsibility! Money will only be spent on things I decide I really want.
So, after letting him know my plans in a gentle and kind way, avoiding any hurt feelings or ungratefulness, I came up with my wish list for myself. While I may not get everything, I’m setting myself up for a very happy morning.
Ugg Maxi Curly Tazz
I’ve been eyeing the Ugg Max Curly Taz for a while now and thought it was time to pull the trigger. These comfortable slip-ons for indoor and outdoor use are perfect for mom’s everyday life. From chauffeuring to walking the dog to hanging on a basketball hoop, these shoes win with comfort and style. With Sherpa’s talent and elevated platform, I will remain fashion relevant and taller than the teenage boys I am growing up to be. A complete success!
MyoLift Mini Microcurrent Facial
Now, this is a bit of a luxury and comes with a bit of a learning curve, but as a now 40-year-old (ouch!) mom of four, I don’t have time for indulgence. This little device promises the anti-aging results I’m currently craving – all on my own. No additional monthly appointments or fees, I’m going to try this guy!
amelia double curious
These everyday earrings from Caitlyn Minimalist will become my current go-to accessory for my mom uniform, promising to add a bit of “put-together” to my otherwise tired and messy look. The double loops add a little edge and I never say no to a little sparkly pop. If nothing else, these make me happy and help me feel less sloppy on those extra tired days. Oh, and an added bonus – they’re super affordable.
heating pad
At the risk of letting my #oldloser flag fly, I’m here to admit that this heating pad is the gift I’m most excited to buy for myself. Winter is long and cold, and once the kids go to bed, my favorite thing is to get cozy under a blanket and watch some great reality TV. So I added the ultimate comfort item to my list. With it, I will be the warmest, calmest, most comfortable couch potato in the world.
This is my own Christmas list. Now all I have to do is check twice (and check my bank account) and I may be giving myself the happiest Christmas ever!
