Mom wonders if it’s ‘too early’ to decorate her house for Halloween

When is the right time to start decorating your house for fall and Halloween? Need a crisp feeling in the air? Does summer have to be completely over, or do you think it’s officially “summer over” as kids go back to school? The official first day of fall is still more than a month away — September 22 — but who wants to wait until then?

One mom is wondering if she’s rushing to decorate her home for Halloween. Now, she’s polling TikTok fans for their opinions.

PS: Yes, I know everyone can do anything they want at home, such as decorating and interior design! This woman just wanted someone else’s opinion and they gave it to her!

“When do you decorate for Halloween? When is it too early?” asks mom and TikTok content creator Leslie Soldano.

“Like you see your neighbor right now, I’m not talking about the exterior decorations, it’s too early for that. I’m talking about the interiors. For example, if you see in the window that someone has put up Halloween decorations in their home, but there are no Excuse anyone, so when? Like when is it acceptable?

Several TikTok users participated in the conversation, with some even admitting that their fall and Halloween decorations are already ready!

“My fall decor is now hanging in my house. 😁” one user admitted.

Another said, “I do it indoors in early September and outdoors in late September. We only have October! Need more time idc 💀😂.

“Decorating on Monday because the kids are going back to school which means summer is over. It’s going to be hot outside on September 1st 🖤,” one mom wrote.

“My kids went back to school on August 7th and I started decorating the next day because technically it would be fall,” another person admitted.

Another user noted that she waited until after Labor Day weekend, which some viewed as a farewell to summer vacation.

“Labor Day Weekend!! It’s then. And it’s never too early! I do what makes me happy!

Another joked: “When Starbucks launches fall drinks.”

according to House & Gardenthere are a few key factors to consider when decorating for Halloween and fall.

First, wait for cooler weather to arrive (if you can where you live!).

“One of the best times to start fall decorating is when the weather starts to get colder for an extended period of time,” H&G’“” magazine editor-in-chief Lucy Searle wrote.

“After a hot summer, cooler weather is often the first harbinger of fall and can help make fall decor, like your living room’s fall decor, feel more cozy and inviting.

She also recommends waiting until October to start changing the decor.

“October is the perfect time to start adding fall decorations or Halloween decoration ideas to your home in preparation for the holidays. From decorating with pumpkins to making sure your home is surrounded by plenty of the best candles, there are always Halloween and fall decorations. It goes hand in hand,” Searle explained.

Searle also recommends going with the flow of the community and paying attention to what others are doing, and wait until you see others starting to add some fall foliage to their front porches.

Finally, maybe add some fall decorations early on, and then once October arrives, add a little Halloween flavor here and there. This way, you still have that fall feeling, but you don’t feel like you’re rushing it!
