Netflix time shortened is a horror film, a teen comedy, and a sci-fi time travel movie. The story follows two sisters who work to solve an unsolved murder from the early 2000s.
After a clip from the film depicting the protagonist entering high school in 2003 began circulating on idea About resonance. Some appreciated the song choice (Hilary Duff’s classic and niche “So Yesterday”), while others didn’t buy the description of a high school hallway in 2003.
In 2003, I was a freshman in high school, and while yes, I did listen to Hilary Duff (I actually went to see her while she was in school) abnormal Touring with my girlfriend), I didn’t turn up my collar or ride my Heelys in the hallways. The whole scene is like a caricature.
The girls’ hair is so shiny. Their makeup looks so natural (and our faces definitely do) no match Our neck! The color scheme isn’t bright enough. There’s just something wrong!
Several X users reacted to the video, agreeing with this sentiment.
“I don’t know how to explain it, but this feels like a fantasy of what 2003 will be like 10 years from now, rather than the reality. There’s something unreal about it. Something is missing,” one user wrote.
“This isn’t 2003, this is a Shein ad,” another person quipped.
“Heels are more popular now than they were before. Ugg boots were later. No one uses a CD player like a cell phone. No one in school is calling anyone. Texting, yes, calling, no. More likely to find out someone is there Play games on a TI calculator instead of using an iPod,” wrote another.
“This is not the 2003 we live in,” one said simply.
“Facial flaws/awkward; everyone’s hair, makeup, and skin are bad,” one person noted.
Another chimed in: “Make up. We’ve never looked so classy. It’s awful, like the foundation is 3 shades darker than our skin tone.
“This is outrageous, even if kids have cell phones and other similar electronics, they don’t use them,” another wrote.

This is just the right thing to do. Remember when we used to have theme weeks at school and we would all dress up as something from the 70s or 80s or whatever we liked? idea Is it a 70s or 80s look? (See picture above!). Looks like a bunch of Apha/Gen Z kids dressing up for an early 00s theme day at school!
“It’s kind of like if they did an ’80s movie and everyone is wearing neon lights and tutus. It’s not 100% accurate, but we’ll just go with it. Haha,” wrote another.
What’s interesting about this major criticism of the film is that the director time shortened, Hannah Macpherson also grew up during this time.
when asked community commercial bank As for her main goal she wanted to achieve to make the film feel like it really took place in 2003 but not make it a cliche, she said her main help was being a teenager during the same time period.
“I think it helped me because I lived in the early 2000s when I was a young man trying to figure out who I was. I remember them very well and it was so fun to revisit music, fashion and even electronics . I understand the fact that the 2000s were true,” she said.
“We have great department heads who have done a lot of research. It makes us laugh so hard looking back over 20 years and how much has changed.”.
While I appreciate the research done on this scenario…did they consult anyone who was actually in high school in 2003? It looks like they combined everything from 2000 to 2007 into one scene! Me, for one, I wasn’t wearing a preppy polo shirt and a pink skirt and holding a flip phone. I was an emotional kid wearing a Hot Topic graphic T-shirt and roller skates.
Finally, (and I’m not a movie buff by any means, so take this with a grain of salt), but I think most of us are put off by the quality of the camera. we can’t look The version of “2003” in school because it was so clean and neat. We need grain. We need ambiguity. We need it to be slightly less polished!
