If you’re anything like us, you’re bound to be obsessed with all the wholesome Olympics content that’s been released over the past two weeks. At some point in your life, you’ve also probably had your child begging for a pet in exchange for completing some chores (and no, you can’t get a rabbit for keeping your house clean all summer).
Well, 14-year-old Olympic skateboarder Arisa Trew might be a better pet than the average kid. The teen won gold in the women’s park skateboarding event on Tuesday, earning her native Australia the title of youngest ever Olympic medalist.
What better prize than a gold medal? Well, maybe pet True has been begging for her parents – a duck.
“My parents promised that if I won the gold medal I would get a pet duck,” the gold medalist told Australia’s Nine Network. “Because they’re really cute, I can take them for walks, take them to the skate park.”
Sounds like a good reason to me!
True’s parents did have some sound guidelines when choosing what kind of pet she would get.
“My parents would never let me get a dog or a cat because we travel so much now,” she explains.
Look, kids—even Olympians have to make sure they can handle the full responsibility of a pet.
True’s parents didn’t hesitate to express their pride in their champion daughter.
“We can’t believe it. It’s crazy, crazy, absolutely crazy,” her father Simon Trew told Nine.
As for where her skills come from, Simone joked “me,” before going on to explain, “Just hanging out, enjoying sports, and yeah, just being active and having a good time.”
“That’s all we encouraged her to do. Make friends, enjoy skating, surfing, everything,” he continued.
In fact, True’s friend, a fellow student at Australian Skateboarding Academy Level Up, had a cute plan to watch her win the gold medal.
“They all spent the night at the skate park and it was really cool to watch me and spend the night there,” True said.
“She’s great, she’s been working on this for a long time,” said one of Arisa’s classmates. “When she hit the ground we were so excited and our air mattress was in the air… we were so excited, so crazy.”
Hopefully Tru’s classmates will soon get a chance to meet her new pet duck and maybe even get a glimpse of her gold medal.
