As parents, we know how incredible it is to see our children express themselves in the little things: having the courage to ask a question in front of the class, deciding to do something on their own and then actually doing it, participating in a group activity and watching from the sidelines for a long time. This feeling penetrates beyond my imaginationa new original movie on Disney+. The story centers on Melody Brooks, a funny, smart sixth-grader who has cerebral palsy, which leaves her in a wheelchair and nonverbal. The film follows the dynamic protagonist as she joins a mainstream classroom for the first time and finally gets the chance to show her peers how much she can contribute.
Melody’s charisma is evident from the start (fun fact: since she could choose any inner voice she wanted in the movie, she chose Jennifer Aniston’s) – and she’s truly the voice we hoped for Teenagers who saw our own children with her. Luckily for her, she has a solid family unit. Melody’s parents knew what a great student she was, but they were worried about all the changes that would come with integrating her into a traditional classroom. Like all parents, they can’t quite Believe me how fast she is growing up.
Its core is, beyond my imagination It’s a coming-of-age story – one that tugs at our heartstrings as we watch a wonderful child begin to become who they want to be. After all, Melody’s story is universal: Sixth grade has always been a time of transformation. It’s also how seemingly small things – like making a boy laugh or participating in a school competition – can make someone feel energized and alive. We can’t wait to watch Melody go through it all.
