Perdue recalls frozen chicken nuggets and tenders

Instead of telling me you’re a parent, tell me you’re a parent: Your refrigerator is stocked with chicken nuggets or nuggets, and that’s pretty much what your kids get every time you go out to eat.

If you can relate, you might want to check your refrigerator after a recent food recall. Purdue Foods LLC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are recalling more than 167,000 pounds of frozen breaded chicken tenders and nuggets. The recall comes after metal wire was found in some products.

“We determined that the material was a very fine wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process,” Jeff Shaw, Perdue’s senior vice president of food safety and quality, said in a press release. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to voluntarily recall all of these product packages.”

Fortunately, no injuries or illnesses related to the nuggets or tenders occurred. Here’s what you need to know about the recall.

Which Perdue Chicken products are affected?

While Perdue makes many different types of chicken nuggets and tenders, three specific types are being recalled.

Perdue said all affected products are marked with the factory code “P-33944” on the back of the packaging. They are shipped to stores across the country and sold directly to consumers online.

These nuggets can be found in the freezer. They have a best before date of March 23, 2025. The barcode for the recalled product is 0-72745-80656-8.

Perdue Breaded Chicken Breasts

The tenders are also sold in freezers with a shelf life of March 23, 2025.

Similar to the other two products, these chicken nuggets have a sell-by date of March 23, 2025.

What should I do if I have these chicken products at home?

If you have these chicken products in your refrigerator, the company says not to eat them. It should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
