Mariska Hargitay shared how she balances family and career in an interview with friend Selena Gomez. Gomez is interviewed Law & Order: SVU actress interview magazine, celebrating the show’s record-breaking 25th season.
“As someone who wants to be a mother, I want to ask a personal question,” Gomez said. “How do you balance things – because I remember one day I was picking up your kids from school and I loved that. It felt so normal and real. How do you balance that? Because, one day, I hope to be able to do that.
“You will,” Hargitay promised.

“For all working moms, this is hard,” she continued. “There’s been a lot of times where I’ve felt torn or frustrated because in our line of work you can’t say, ‘Guys, I’m not coming today.'” But I’ve incorporated them here. My kids come to work with me.
“Is there anything I miss? Yes. The other side is my kids are really proud of me. I talk to them a lot about, what do you want in life, who do you want to be, what do you want How do you spend your time? What do you want to give back, who do you want to impact, what do you want to create?
Hargitay went on to explain that while she has had to rely on nannies at times, she has found a balance that works for her family.
She continued, “Sometimes nannies do extra things and it’s difficult. But I took August with me every day for the first year. You can too. It’s doable. I’m happier and have a better life.” Fulfillment, they feel and see that when I’m with them, I’m with them.
