Two-time WWF Champion Sid Vicious has died. He is 63 years old.
The professional wrestler’s son Gunnar Eudy announced the death of his father, born Sidney Eudy, in a Facebook tribute on Monday, August 26.
“It is with great sadness that I share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after a several-year battle with cancer,” Gunnar wrote of Sid, who was in the ring Also known as Sycho Sid and Sid Justice. “He was a man of strength, kindness and love and his presence will be greatly missed.”
PEOPLE contacted Gunnar Eudy for further comment.
WWE, former WWF wrestlers and fans paid tribute to the WrestleMania star, detailing Sid’s impact on the wrestling world.
Shawn Michaels, who hired Sid as a bodyguard before challenging him for the WWF Championship, was “saddened” by the news.
“His presence was unforgettable and the role he played in the creation of ‘The Heartbroken Child’ cannot be overstated. His work, legacy and influence will inspire our careers for generations to come,” said the 59-year-old Michaels, who retired, said in a statement. Statement about X.
Sycho Sid defeated Michaels in November 1996 to become WWF Champion for the first time. A few months later, Sid lost to Michaels in a rematch before regaining the title from Bret Hart in February 1997.
Retired wrestler Booker T also shared information about Sid’s legacy.
“I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW without Sid Vicious,” Booker T, 59, wrote on the website X. “His impact on the industry is undeniable and he paved the way for so many of us. My deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE; formerly WWF) released a black and white photo of Sid with “WWE REMEMBERS” printed on it via X.
“WWE is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sid Eudy,” WWE said. “WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.”
Syd’s son added that details of Syd’s memorial service will be announced soon, but for now, “we appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss.”
