The holidays are coming! The halls are being decorated and our kids’ Christmas wish lists are being compiled! If you have young children who still want Barbies and trucks, you might feel overwhelmed by all the requests, but one mum says cherish their childlike curiosity while you can – and give them Everything you want!
Jane Ippolito posts “unpopular opinions” on her TikTok about Christmas gifts for kids, noting what she thinks parents should buy all Gifts for their children. Seriously, spoil them rotten, because as Ippolito said, one day soon they won’t want anything more than a few gift cards.
“It’s an unpopular opinion, but buy all the Christmas gifts,” she said. “Let grandma, grandpa and uncles buy all the gifts they want. Don’t ask for gift cards. Let them get all the gifts.
“Have the kids walk downstairs and see the whole living room filled because one day it’s gift cards or clothes or little perfume bottles, and then you don’t see all these toys and it’s just, ‘This is another one. A gift card’ and you miss those memories of tearing the gift into pieces and getting a new toy and the excitement on their face but before you know it, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m just going to be there. Put a gift card in the envelope for them.
Ippolito’s advice was echoed in her comments section, with several parents recalling when their children’s interests changed and acknowledging that the magic of the holiday wears off over time.
“You’re 100% right. My kids are 29 and 25 and it’s so frustrating. The magic is gone😩😳😢😬🤷♀️Hopefully one day I will be a grandma soon👵, ” one user wrote.
Another noted, “Wrap up every little thing if possible. Chapstick, socks, etc. 🥰🥰🥰”
“Totally agree with this!!!! They grow up so fast! We will wish we spent the money on gifts! The memories you make are so worth it!!” said one user.
Of course, counterarguments can be made to Ippolito’s point – pointing out that overconsumption, capitalism and spoiled children should all be factors considered when making a purchase all Gifts – I mostly agree with this.
I think there’s something special about reliving the holidays through the eyes of a child who believes in magic. As the kids get older and learn that maybe the holidays aren’t all cookies, reindeer, and jingle bells, the light of the season does dim a little, so why not while the kids play, we can sing out every last drop of innocence and What about happiness?
