My husband and I have always said that when our daughters grow up, we want to be That house. A house where all the kids want to hang out. Snacks, drinks and space will be provided. We want to meet all her friends. We wanted to make sure we understood what was going on in her life. One woman on TikTok shared what her high school friend’s mom did back in the day, and it was actually pretty awesome.
“When I was in high school, my friend’s mom used to do Friday receptions. So, every Friday she would make some dessert. She would bring out jugs of milk, and after school, everyone would flock to her house,” TikTok user Kali explained in her now-viral video.
“The whole front door was piled with shoes, the whole house was packed with teenagers, and it was a great way for this mom to get to know all the people her daughter went to school with and be a kind person.” We all had a great time “finding out” what was going on in high school.
Sounds like a win-win for everyone involved!
To take things a step further, this mom went the extra mile and made a keepsake for each of the “regulars” at her house on Friday afternoon.
“We all got to really enjoy it. The last Friday before graduation, her mom made these recipe books for all the people who came every week. I recently discovered this again,” she said, showing Stapled and laminated recipe booklet.
“This is so special. Let me tell you. There are 45 recipes here. It was our favorite all through high school. Anyway, it’s such a treasure and I’m so glad I came across it again. We had a lot of good times there Memories. I think it’s a really cool tradition to make desserts for all the high school students and make your home a gathering place for everyone to feel at home and feel safe and have a great meal. I just, I don’t know, I hope to be that person one day.
