feedback
Selena Gomez has always been active in philanthropy. Since her debut on Disney Channel Wizards of Waverly PlaceThe young actress is the youngest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, raising awareness of the plight of children in Ghana through her trick-or-treating activities.
While too numerous to list, other charities she has publicly supported include: Make-A-Wish Foundation, Free the Children, ENOUGH Project, Stand Up to Cancer, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and Teen Cancer America, to name a few .
While Gomez is clearly committed to the community, she hopes to make bigger changes during last year’s purge. She described that she was tired of everything in her life and wanted to switch to service.
So Gomez started interning at A21 while still working in the studio. However, she still felt that her time was divided and the effect was not good, so she immersed herself in serving others.
A21 is a non-profit human trafficking organization. Their mission is to end slavery in the hope that all humans can be saved from slavery and fully restored. With 14 offices around the world, Gomez is able to take the time to give back and work with purpose. She believes human trafficking is not only an issue that should be discussed, but needs to be acted upon.
stay away from social media
As one of the most followed people on Instagram, Gomez knew that much of her cleansing would need to come from social media, too. She admitted that after seeing these beautiful, amazing people on Instagram, she felt emotionally drained and sad in an unhealthy way.
Gomez later deleted the app entirely from her phone. She deleted all photo-editing apps and gave her account information to a friend, whom she posted only occasionally.
The star began to realize that with the blackout came great truths. She wants to send a message to the younger generation that exposure to too much information is unrealistic and can cause anxiety.
Social media is useful in our lives, but everyone should protect themselves in some way from what they are exposed to and pay attention to how social media makes you feel.
Gomez walks the talk, and if it doesn’t make you feel good, don’t do it.
