Why you need a parenting safeword

You’ve heard of the safe word (I bet you rascal), but have you? parenting Safe word? Not just for fun, sexy occasions, parenting safewords can be a helpful tool in helping your partner de-escalate conflicts with your kids.

Parenting coach Locke Haman shared a video on Instagram in which he recommends using safe words from the bedroom to the living room.

“Safe words don’t just apply to kinky sex,” Harman said.

What are parenting safe words?

“Parenting safe words” are a way of communication between parents. You can use a parenting safe word to let your partner know that they need a break from dealing with the kids and should probably step away to calm down and take a break.

“It’s not as exciting as a safe word in the bedroom, but it might dramatically improve your parenting,” joked Harman.

It also has the added benefit of being a silly secret between parents.

“We know each other so well and can communicate through facial expressions and gestures. It drives our kids crazy,” Harman said. “Imagine I’m having a tantrum and my mom walks in and says ‘sassafras,’ and it’s like she’s casting a spell and I just stop and walk away.”

“It’s like the holy grail of parenting,” he continued. “One is to annoy your kids, and the other is to defuse an explosive situation while doing so. The third is to allow your partner to save face by using a safe word instead of yelling at them.

This proved to be a very popular idea. Many parents say they use parenting safe words at home and even share different ways they apply the concept.

“It works! The key is to use it early before leveling up, you’ll forget about everything except the target in front of you 😂😂” said one user.

“We have a safe word that means ‘I know you don’t mean it, but you’re being unkind to me, please stop,'” another person said.

“I’ve also heard of a safe word being used when two people disagree to indicate that one person might get defensive or need a break. Love this idea! Another shared.

This may not be the sexiest application for safewords, but if it works, it works!
