When I got pregnant, one of the first things I did (after panicking or celebrating, depending on which pregnancy we were talking about) was excitedly counting about When I’m due. I figured my son would be born sometime in September, and I nervously worried about my 9/11 birthday. My daughter will probably be here in late spring, and I think with disdain of a bad ex’s June 5th birthday. We’ve all probably wanted to avoid a date for our child’s debut, but what’s the worst birthday?
WhatToExpect.com has the answer.
Earlier this year, the website surveyed 404 women aged 18 to 44 who were pregnant or had given birth to at least one child under the age of 5 to find out the worst birthday dates. What they found is very interesting.
Christmas
Fully 40% of respondents believe Christmas is the unluckiest birthday. Jesus is a difficult person to spend his birthday with: no matter how hard you try, you can’t hold up a candle to the man who most of the world believes is the Son of God. For many people, especially Americans, Christmas is probably the biggest holiday of the year. Everyone has a lot to do, so everyone forgets, is busy, travels, or just no In the mood for another party.
Honestly, as someone born on December 27th, I can confirm that Christmas kind of sucks any Birthday at the end of December. The week between Christmas and New Year essentially exists outside of time itself. yes christmas season Birthdays suck. But honestly, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal. (Thanks to my mom for always throwing me and-Birthday in June.
leap day
It makes sense that 38% of parents think it’s the worst birthday ever, considering it only happens every four years. You have to figure out whether you want to celebrate on February 28th or March 1st.
I will say though, a family friend in his 80s was very proud to celebrate his “21st birthday” earlier this year on February 29th of this year, and when he said he was finally old enough to drink, I I think it’s cute. So…it’s a great birthday for the long game.
anniversary of death
While I’m sure people certainly see a glimmer of hope in a baby born on the anniversary of a loved one’s death, 26% of respondents felt they would rather keep the two big events separate.
New Year
Another victim of the holidays! Again: No one wants to celebrate another thing on New Year’s Day, especially if they’re dealing with a New Year’s Eve hangover, and 23 percent of the moms surveyed understand this.
Other crappy birthdays include…
- Any date close to the holidays (I feel seen…)
- their sibling’s birthday (really, I would no way Forgive any of my siblings for stealing my birthday)
- Halloween (I don’t know; I thought this would be cool, but maybe that’s because I love Halloween)
So if you can schedule your baby’s birthday, you may be able to avoid these dates. But if you can’t help it, remember: If the worst thing your child has to face is a subpar birth date, they’ll be fine.
